Monthly commits across six repositories, staff headcount, and domain rank · May 2017 - Oct 2026
Analysis. Three eras. Solo-maintainer pydantic (2017-2022) built the library that everything else rests on.
The company era starts Feb 2023 (Sequoia seed) and commits peak on pydantic core in 2023 toward the v2 rewrite.
Then the center of gravity moves: logfire from mid-2023, pydantic-ai from late 2024, monty in early 2026.
By Oct 2026 pydantic-ai runs 1,194 commits in a month, roughly 4x pydantic's all-time monthly peak, while core pydantic holds a steady 40-80.
Inferred staff (team identities committing in a month) rose from a pre-company 2 to 21 by Oct 2026, peaking at 25 in Q3 2026; domain rank peaked at 71 with the v2 launch (Jul 2023), then settled to a 64-65 plateau that has not moved through the Logfire and pydantic-ai era.
The Aug 2025 backlink purge (-28K links, rank unchanged) shows the plateau tracks link quality, not volume.
Rank vs DR: DataForSEO rank and Ahrefs Domain Rating measure the same idea (backlink-based strength, 0-100) on different indexes with different formulas, so the numbers are not comparable across tools. Same day this data was pulled, Ahrefs showed pydantic.dev at DR 83 with 9.9K linking websites while DataForSEO showed rank 64 with 7.6K referring domains; Ahrefs' 171K backlink count includes historical records, DataForSEO counts live links only. Use each scale only against itself.
